A two-day training seminar on "Adaptation of Community Structures and Emission Baseline Cadastre (SES), as well as Sustainable Energy Development and Climate Change Action Plan" took place on May 22-23.

The Deputy Head of the EU Delegation for Cooperation in Armenia Gregory Tauris, President of the Union of Communities of Armenia Emin Yeritsyan and Karen Bakoyan, Head of the Department of Coordination of Local Self-Government of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, delivered welcoming speeches.

The event was attended by representatives of  Covenant of Mayors signatory communities , representatives of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources Ministries, Energy Saving Fund, as well as a number of energy, energy efficiency and lighting experts.

The Covenant of Mayors brings together the climate and energy plan to local authorities that voluntarily commit to investing in their communities in the EU's climate and energy efficiency goals. New signatories have pledged to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030.

In 2016 seven armenian communities joined the Covenant of Mayors. Signatories have yet to develop action plans and need support not only for the establishment of relevant community structures (eg appointment of energy managers) but also in the development of the Emission Initial Cadastre (AEC) and the Sustainable Energy Development and Climate Change Action Plan 

The first day of the seminar was based on theoretical approaches to promote local energy management structures, followed by practical training.

Expert in the Covenant of Mayors in Armenia Artem Kharazyan presented the new commitments and challenges of the Covenant of Mayors for the Climate and Energy Program, as well as touched upon the adaptation component of the new Covenant.

During the working meeting, the participants were asked to complete post - seminar questionnaries to test the knowledge acquired during the seminar.
